Carla is an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher with over 30 years experience, teaching students of all ages. Since 2007 she has taught exclusively at Higher Education level and beyond, including coaching several professional players. In September 2021 she was appointed as Professor of Low Flutes and Contemporary Flute at the Royal Academy of Music in London, the first designated low flutes teaching position in the world.

Carla is also Music Programme Leader for the Open College of the Arts, where she is has developed an innovative open-access distance learning music degree which focuses on performance and composition. She is Director of rarescale Flute Academy, a flute ensemble which teaches advanced players the techniques of playing low flutes, and frequently coaches flute ensembles around the UK.

Private lessons are available for advanced students (diploma level plus), in person or online, either in preparation for diploma exams and degree recitals, or to further develop technique and musical ideas through independent study. Particular specialisms include low flutes, baroque flute, contemporary repertoire and techniques, but Carla is experienced in teaching the full range of the flute's repertoire.

Carla is also active as a masterclass teacher and leads low flute days and composition and arrangement workshops.
